Precision.
Personalised.
Proven.

Every ILE student follows the same three-stage method, adapted to their subject, exam board and the time they have before exams. No guesswork, no filler, no generic content.

01
Diagnostic Assessment
Map precisely where you are
02
Bespoke Curriculum
A plan built entirely for you
03
Relentless Refinement
Weekly sessions until the grade is yours
We start with radical clarity
Before we teach a single topic, we spend a session going through your recent papers together, reviewing what you wrote, what the mark scheme expected, and where the gap between the two lies. This isn't a test; it's a diagnostic. By the end of it, you'll have a clear picture of exactly what's costing you marks, and so will we.

Past paper review

We go through 2–3 recent papers together, line by line, identifying recurring errors and missed technique marks.

Gap mapping

Every topic on your specification is assessed for confidence and accuracy, giving us a precise priority list.

Exam board alignment

Your exact spec, your exact question styles, your mark scheme language. Nothing generic enters the conversation.

Clear goal

We establish your target grade and timeline, then work backwards to calculate exactly what needs to happen.

A curriculum built entirely for you
Using what we found in the diagnostic, we build a session-by-session plan around your specific gaps, your exam board's emphasis and the time you have available. Topics are sequenced to move your grade as efficiently as possible, with highest-value areas first, dependencies respected, exam timing factored in from the beginning.

Priority sequencing

Topics ranked by mark-value and your current weakness. We work where grade improvement is greatest first.

Adaptive pacing

Sessions adjust based on your progress. The plan is a framework, not a fixed schedule.

Resource curation

Bespoke question banks, worked examples and mark-scheme notes, all aligned to your specific board.

Session structure

Each session balances new content, technique practice and past-paper application in a consistent rhythm.

Relentless iteration until the grade is locked in
Weekly sessions with timed practice, detailed mark-scheme feedback and ongoing progress tracking. We don't move on until a topic is genuinely secure. We run full papers in exam conditions, analyse the results and iterate until the performance is consistent: reliable, under pressure, on the day that matters.

Timed practice

Regular exam-condition papers with mark scheme feedback. Building the habit of performing under pressure.

Technique drills

Command words, show-that questions, multi-step calculations: drilled until they are automatic.

Progress tracking

Clear session-by-session progress records shared with you and, if appropriate, your parents.

Pre-exam sessions

Targeted final revision in the weeks before exams, focused and timed to your schedule.

Core principles

What makes ILE different

I
Skills, not just content
Content knowledge is necessary but not sufficient. The tutors who came through ILE understand that exam performance is a skill, and skills are built through deliberate, repeated practice with feedback.
II
Examiner thinking
Our tutors have sat these exams and studied the mark schemes obsessively. They know what gets awarded and what does not; they pass that understanding to every student they teach.
III
Measurable progress
Vague improvement isn't enough. We track topic-level performance, paper scores and technique accuracy across sessions, so you always know exactly where you stand.

Everything you need to know

How long does it take to see results?+
Most students see a measurable improvement within 3–4 sessions. The diagnostic session alone often produces an immediate jump in mock performance because students understand for the first time exactly why they've been losing marks. Sustained grade improvements of 1–2 grades typically appear within 4–8 weeks of regular sessions.
How are sessions delivered?+
All sessions are delivered online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Sessions are typically 1 hour, though 90-minute sessions are available for students who prefer a longer format. All you need is a device, a pen and paper, and your textbook or revision materials.
How do you match students with tutors?+
At your free consultation, we'll ask about your subject, exam board, current grade and learning style. We then match you with the tutor from our team of 20+ who is best suited to your specific situation — not just any available tutor, but the right one. You're always welcome to try a session and request a change if the fit isn't right.
How much do sessions cost?+
Pricing varies by subject and session length. Your free consultation is completely free with no commitment. We'll discuss pricing options during the consultation and find an arrangement that works for you. We keep our rates competitive precisely because ILE was founded on the belief that access to quality tutoring shouldn't be unnecessarily expensive.
Can parents be involved?+
Absolutely. We're happy to include parents in the initial consultation, provide session summaries after each lesson, and have a brief catch-up at the end of sessions if that's helpful. Many of our enquiries come from parents, and we understand that visibility into your child's progress matters.
Do you offer STEP or UCAT preparation?+
STEP I and STEP II preparation is available through our Further Maths offering. UCAT support is something we can discuss at your consultation. Our founder is a Cambridge medic who sat the UCAT and can point you in the right direction. AEA preparation is also available for students aiming at the top of the Further Maths grade boundary.
